Carrera Heuer-01 43mm

In black, navy blue and cognac brown, and a new diameter of 43 mm, the famous Heuer-01 Skeleton Manufacture Chronograph is available in 6 new references in steel with a matching ceramic bezel.

Unveiled in 2015, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-01 opened the doors to a new market. A 45 mm Skeleton Manufacture Chronograph with a contemporary sports design, and coming in at under 5000 CHF, it redefined the notion of value for money.

This year, the famous proprietary chronograph is being unveiled with a slightly smaller diameter of 43 mm, in a choice of three versions: intense black, deep navy blue and an elegant cognac brown.

The brilliance of the polished ceramic tachymeter bezel echoes the polished, satin-finished steel of the iconic 12-part modular case. The skeleton dial – the trademark of the Heuer-01 – and the sapphire case-back reveal the beauty of the mechanism. The chronograph operating levers and the date disc are open-worked on the dial side. On the case-back, the red column wheel — a bold visual anchor — the skeleton chronograph bridge and circular black PVD weight also draw the eye into the mechanism, which is equipped with a clutch with oscillating pinion.

Ulysse Nardin North Sea Minute Repeater

A Striking New Champlevé Minute Repeater: Ulysse Nardin Presents the North Sea.

In a powerful homage to the oil industry, the Ulysse Nardin North Sea Minute Repeater marks the latest addition to the unique timepieces in the Classic Collection.

Finely crafted in gold and champlevé enamel, this timepiece is an incredibly realistic depiction of the mighty off-shore drilling rigs that dig deep for the world's precious "black gold". The glimmering champlevé rig, seen from a low angle, rises majestically from the black sea, with its delicately wrought waves in the foreground. A dramatic red sky highlights the stunningly detailed structure, while in the background, another golden rig works industriously away.

Three 18-Karat gold cranes – the Jaquemarts – move and sound when the minute repeater is activated indicating the hours, quarter hours and minutes. Known for its crystalline chimes as well as for its impressive mechanical timekeeping, the minute-repeater complication is highly respected in the horological industry and by connoisseurs as one of the most difficult to achieve.

The champlevé enamel technique is a genuine rarity and this one is a fine example of this ancient art. First introduced in the 12th century, the champlevé enamel technique is mastered by only a handful of craftspeople worldwide. Firstly, it requires the engraver to define the design on gold plate, carefully creating the image in three-dimensions. The enameller then lays down the different-colored enamels. Finally, the effect is brought vividly to life by the engraver who chisels the metal to perfection once the dial has been polished.

Minimal black indexes, and streamlined hour and minute hands allow the final results – the powerful champlevé rigs – to take center stage on the rose-gold dial.

Indeed, the Ulysse Nardin North Sea Minute Repeater represents the finest in Haute Horlogerie, melding centuries-old artisanship with cutting-edge technology to create this noble tribute to industry.

Hublot presents Classic Fusion Italia Independent collection

The new Octo Roma

All roads lead to Rome, according to the saying that placed the Eternal City at the centre of the ancient world. The same is true of OCTO: nurtured by the octagonal motifs adorning the Basilica of Maxentius, the watchmaking shape was born in the 2000s in the form of Grand Complication models, before gradually drawing closer to the very heart of the symbol in 2012 – when the hours and minutes version was launched, showcasing the well-known design. It is now reinterpreted in an approach that pushes the formal purity of the octagon to its very limits.

Ancient philosophers vaunted the principle of ‘quintessence’, meaning the most refined version of a material or a concept. Bulgari has chosen to strive towards this pure ideal by offering an additional version of its OCTO line, a highly refined model embodying this quest for absolutes.

The new OCTO ROMA epitomises the very heart of the collection, while endowing it with an extra dimension. Known for their structured case featuring 110 facets, OCTO watches introduced a new form-focused approach based on a strong and innovative design centred around the geometrical octagon shape.

The collection is built around four major pillars: the classic OCTO watches; the Velocissimo chronographs; the ultra-thin Finissimo models of which the design finds new expression in the mastery of extreme slimness with the Small seconds; and the Finissimo models with horological complications, such as the spectacular Minute Repeater and the Tourbillon – both of which hold world slimness records in their respective categories.

The new OCTO ROMA embodies the ‘fifth element’ by introducing an elegant, modern and urban touch tending towards absolute purity, while respecting the design fundamentals of the model.

Pilot Extra Special Chronograph

An imposing bronze case, a wide ratcheted easily adjustable crown, oversized luminescent numerals and a high-beat El Primero mechanism: the new “Pilot” by Zenith proudly flaunts the DNA of a line of airborne conquerors.

In 2017, this famous aviator’s watch with its distinctive design expresses its trailblazing style in chronograph mode. With its sandblasted black dial and its khaki green oily nubuck leather strap, it showcases a neo-retro look fuelled by an adventurous spirit. Exactly like that of the aviation pioneers that the Manufacture accompanied right from the early days of flight.

With its noble bearing and vintage patina, the new Pilot Extra Special Chronograph is imbued with the intrepid heritage of high-flying heroes. A natural heir to the onboard instruments developed by Zenith in the early years of aeronautics and known for their precision, sturdiness and outstanding legibility, this chronograph – with its virile bronze case, its high-frequency El Primero ‘engine’ and its black dial bearing green-emission SLN Arabic numerals – sports the vigorous typology of these iconic pilot’s watches.

Excalibur Spider Carbon

Roger Dubuis ‘releases the beast’ at the SIHH 2017 with the world premiere Excalibur Spider Carbon. This striking black and red model features a Spider-type skeletonised case with a DLC-treated crown, case-back and ‘container’, all made from titanium. The light yet sturdy material is teamed here with multi-layered carbon for the case, as well as vulcanized rubber on the container and red lacquer lighting up the bezel. Even more importantly, it introduces the first-ever movement plate, bridges and tourbillon upper-cage entirely made in carbon. The result is a mainplate and case forming a ‘chassis’ that is rendered even lighter by this choice of material.

The honeycomb dial decor inspired by automobile radiator grilles creates a perfect high-tech background against which to highlight this Calibre RD509SQ, an ‘Astral Skeleton’ flying tourbillon movement beating at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour and benefiting from a 70-hour power reserve.

Such an amazing technical feat, further complicated by the skeletonised nature of the calibre, is made possible by the particularly rigid nature of this T700 carbon that results in less vibrations and enhanced precision. Its ultra-thin layered structure, achieved by a sophisticated impregnation process, results in a number of useful properties.

These include a uniform structure enabling 8% lower porosity compared with most other types of carbon, along with a substantial 30% reduction in weight that facilitates the rotation of the tourbillon upper-cage. The 10°-angled layers applied to the calibre plate and bridges call for a sophisticated production process and are a fine example of dedicating technical expertise to serving aesthetics.

Their purpose is to reproduce the same motifs on the movement as those appearing on the case middle. Gripping the wrist (and the imagination) with its strap featuring a rubber base and red RubberTech fabric-like inlay, firmly secured by a DLC-coated titanium folding clasp, the Excalibur Spider Carbon is issued in a 28-piece limited edition.

An exclusive production run that is bound to inspire enthusiasts in rising to the ‘Dare to be Rare’ challenge set by Roger Dubuis.

Horological Machine N° 7 “Aquapod”

After pushing the boundaries of horological exploration by blasting into outer space (HM2, HM3, HM6), launching into the sky (HM4) and powering down the road and around the track (HM5, HMX, HM8), MB&F plunges into the water with Horological Machine No.7, aka HM7 Aquapod.

The organic jellyfish-inspired design of HM7 Aquapod is counter-balanced by the very mechanical horology within: a central flying tourbillon tops the concentric vertical movement architecture, with indications radiating out from the centre like ripples in a pond.

HM7 Aquapod began its gestation as a horological jellyfish, and the architecture of its Engine is appropriately biomorphic. Jellyfish are radially symmetric, Aquapod is radially symmetric. Where a jellyfish generates power from food caught in its tentacles, HM7 generates power from its tentacle-like automatic winding rotor.

Where jellyfish have a radially symmetric ring of neurons for a brain, Aquapod has radially symmetric rings displaying hours and minutes. Where jellyfish have a hood or bell on top, HM7 Aquapod has an imposing flying tourbillon regulating the power generated by the rotor, and transforming it into the display of time.

The winding rotor’s tentacles are crafted from a solid block of titanium; their very three-dimensional nature makes machining and finishing extremely challenging. Underneath the tentacles, a platinum mass ensures powerful and efficient winding.

And then there's that ceramic bezel. While Horological Machine No.7 is not a dive watch, it is a timepiece comfortably at home in the water – so MB&F added the one element that all serious aquatic watches possess: a unidirectional rotating bezel. However, unlike every other dive watch on the planet, Aquapod's bezel isn't attached to the case, but floats apart like a life buoy.

The 303-component, 72-hour power reserve HM7 Engine was developed in-house by MB&F. Spherically three-dimensional, all its mechanisms – from the winding rotor at the bottom, past the mainspring barrel and hour and minute displays, to the flying tourbillon on top – rotate concentrically around the centre. The curves of the high-domed sapphire crystal are mirrored in the shape of the __time display rings, which are not simply flat and angled, but are mathematically precise, curved spherical segments.

And, like many jellyfish, HM7 glows in the dark. It glows where you would expect it to – on the hour and minute numerals – but also around the inside of the movement, to light up that flying tourbillon at night… and in addition, along the tentacle-like winding rotor so that its operation, too, can be appreciated in the dark.

HM7 Aquapod launches in 33 pieces in grade 5 titanium with blue bezel, and 66 pieces in 18K 5N+ red gold with black bezel.

Aquaracer 300M 43mm

Aquaracer. The quintessential sports watch inspired by the lure of the deep. Ever the pioneer, in 1892, Edouard Heuer filed the first patent for a watertight case in the history of watchmaking. It was an immediate success. Since that time, the Aquaracer (the collection created by TAG Heuer in 2003) has continued to evolve, developing into the perfect timepiece for all kinds of extreme conditions, not just diving and other seafaring activities.

Robust and water-resistant to 300 metres, this watch — featuring a uni-directional rotary bezel, with its twelve sides and six studs, screw-down crown, large luminous indications on the indexes and hands for improved visibility when diving and screw-down case back engraved with a diver's helmet — is immediately recognisable.

For the 2017 edition, the Aquaracer keeps its key characteristics while becoming more accessible with an aluminium bezel (instead of ceramic for the 2016 edition) and a quartz movement to meet strong market demand. The high quality of the Aquaracer's finishes and functions yet again make it one of the best value timepieces on the market.
